The native hormone is produced in the hypothalamus and acts on the anterior pituitary. Binding of GHRH to its receptor stimulates synthesis and release of growth hormone into circulation. Because the analogue retains the receptor-binding region of the parent sequence, it engages the same receptor and triggers the same downstream signaling. The result is increased growth hormone secretion from pituitary cells, which in turn influences hepatic production of insulin-like growth factor 1. This axis is the basis for the compound's measured biological effects.
Interest in this peptide developed because native GHRH has a short circulating lifetime. The N-terminal modification slows cleavage by dipeptidyl peptidase IV, an enzyme that removes the first two residues of many peptides and terminates their activity. Slower degradation means a longer window of receptor stimulation per administration. This design logic parallels other modified peptide hormones, where a small chemical change at a vulnerable site yields a more durable molecule without altering the core mechanism of action.
Binding of tesamorelin to the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor on anterior pituitary somatotrophs activates a Gs protein pathway, raises cyclic AMP, and triggers release of stored growth hormone into the bloodstream. Because the analogue resists dipeptidyl peptidase-4, its plasma residence time exceeds that of native GHRH, producing a larger and more sustained secretory signal. The released growth hormone then acts on the liver and peripheral tissues to raise insulin-like growth factor 1, which feeds back on the hypothalamus and pituitary. This axis explains both the intended effects on fat distribution and the biological markers used to track them.
Studies of the compound rely on imaging and laboratory endpoints rather than on symptoms alone. Visceral adipose tissue is usually quantified by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging at the level of the abdomen, with waist circumference serving as a cheaper but less specific proxy. Blood work tracks insulin-like growth factor 1, fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and lipid fractions. In the pivotal trials the imaging endpoint fell by roughly fifteen to twenty percent over six months, subcutaneous fat changed little, and the visceral fat returned toward baseline after treatment stopped, a pattern that shapes how clinicians discuss durability.
Whether the drug improves hard clinical outcomes is not settled. No completed trial has shown a reduction in heart attacks or strokes among treated patients, although a dedicated cardiovascular outcomes study has been discussed in the literature. Investigators have also examined hepatic fat in people with HIV and fatty liver disease, cognitive measures in small cohorts, and changes in bone density. Regulatory labeling emphasizes monitoring of insulin-like growth factor 1 because supraphysiologic levels raise questions about tissue growth, and the clinical significance of that signal remains an open question rather than a demonstrated harm.

Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide that acts as an analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, a natural hypothalamic signal. Its sequence corresponds to the forty-four amino acid form of the human hormone, with a small acyl group attached near the amino terminus. That modification slows enzymatic breakdown and extends the time the peptide remains active in circulation. The compound was developed as a pharmacological way to raise endogenous growth hormone output rather than supplying the hormone directly.
After injection, the peptide binds receptors on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary. Receptor activation raises intracellular cyclic AMP and triggers release of stored growth hormone into the bloodstream. Because the compound works through the body's own regulatory system, growth hormone pulses retain much of their normal feedback control. Repeated administration also raises insulin-like growth factor 1, a hormone produced mainly in the liver. Investigators treat that rise as a marker that the pituitary axis has been engaged.
Clinical study of tesamorelin has centered on adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a condition in which abdominal fat accumulates while peripheral fat is lost. In controlled trials, treated participants showed reductions in visceral adipose tissue measured by imaging, alongside modest shifts in some lipid values. Effects on subcutaneous fat were smaller and less consistent across studies. Whether these changes translate into fewer cardiovascular events remains an open question, because the trials were not designed or powered to answer it.

=== Bulbs === Most light bulbs have either clear or coated glass. Coated glass bulbs have kaolin clay blown in and electrostatically deposited on the interior of the bulb. The powder layer diffuses the light from the filament. Pigments may be added to the clay to adjust the color of the light emitted. Kaolin diffused bulbs are used extensively in interior lighting because of their comparatively gentle light. Other kinds of colored bulbs are also made, including the various colors used for "party bulbs", Christmas tree lights and other decorative lighting. These are created by coloring the glass with a dopant; which is often a metal like cobalt (blue) or chromium (green). Neodymium-containing glass is sometimes used to provide a more natural-appearing light.
Benefits of decreased body mass index as well as HDL cholesterol were more strongly observed in studies with only a slight increase in protein intake rather where high protein intake was classified as 45% of total energy intake. Detrimental effects to cardiovascular activity were not observed in short-term diets of 6 months or less. There is little consensus on the potentially detrimental effects to healthy individuals of a long-term high protein diet, leading to caution advisories about using high protein intake as a form of weight loss. The 2015–2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) recommends that men and teenage boys increase their consumption of fruits, vegetables and other under-consumed foods, and that a means of accomplishing this would be to reduce overall intake of protein foods. The 2015–2020 DGA report does not set a recommended limit for the intake of red and processed meat. While the report acknowledges research showing that lower intake of red and processed meat is correlated with reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases in adults, it also notes the value of nutrients provided from these meats. The recommendation is not to limit intake of meats or protein, but rather to monitor and keep within daily limits the sodium (< 2300 mg), saturated fats (less than 10% of total calories per day), and added sugars (less than 10% of total calories per day) that may be increased as a result of consumption of certain meats and proteins.
=== Influence of contact shape === Even in the presence of perfectly smooth surfaces, geometry can come into play in form of the macroscopic shape of the contacting region. When a rigid punch with flat but oddly shaped face is carefully pulled off its soft counterpart, its detachment occurs not instantaneously but detachment fronts start at pointed corners and travel inwards, until the final configuration is reached which for macroscopically isotropic shapes is almost circular. The main parameter determining the adhesive strength of flat contacts occurs to be the maximum linear size of the contact. The process of detachment can as observed experimentally can be seen in the film.

=== Chloroplast inheritance === Like mitochondria, chloroplasts are usually inherited from a single parent. Biparental chloroplast inheritance—where plastid genes are inherited from both parent plants—occurs in very low levels in some flowering plants. Many mechanisms prevent biparental chloroplast DNA inheritance, including selective destruction of chloroplasts or their genes within the gamete or zygote, and chloroplasts from one parent being excluded from the embryo. Parental chloroplasts can be sorted so that only one type is present in each offspring. Gymnosperms, such as pine trees, mostly pass on chloroplasts paternally, while flowering plants often inherit chloroplasts maternally. Flowering plants were once thought to only inherit chloroplasts maternally. However, there are now many documented cases of angiosperms inheriting chloroplasts paternally. Angiosperms, which pass on chloroplasts maternally, have many ways to prevent paternal inheritance. Most of them produce sperm cells that do not contain any plastids. There are many other documented mechanisms that prevent paternal inheritance in these flowering plants, such as different rates of chloroplast replication within the embryo. Among angiosperms, paternal chloroplast inheritance is observed more often in hybrids than in offspring from parents of the same species. This suggests that incompatible hybrid genes might interfere with the mechanisms that prevent paternal inheritance.
In addition, a small amount of urea is excreted (along with sodium chloride and water) in sweat. In water, the amine groups undergo slow displacement by water molecules, producing ammonia, ammonium ions, and bicarbonate ions. For this reason, old, stale urine has a stronger odor than fresh urine.
Increasingly restrictive drug laws of the 1960s and the 1970s curbed scientific research into the effects of psilocybin and other hallucinogens, but its popularity as an entheogen grew in the next decade, owing largely to the increased availability of information on how to cultivate psilocybin mushrooms. Possession of psilocybin-containing mushrooms has been outlawed in most countries, and psilocybin is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance in the 1971 United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances. Psilocybin is being studied as a possible medicine in the treatment of psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder, substance use disorders, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and other conditions such as cluster headaches. Psilocybin was approved for treatment-resistant depression in Australia in 2023. It is in late-stage clinical trials in the United States for major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression. As of September 2026, complete submission of psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 and commercial launch for this indication is anticipated in the first half of 2027. Especially at higher doses and combined with psychological support, single doses of psilocybin may produce rapid and long-lasting antidepressant effects that outperform placebo, though they may produce either modest or no effectiveness advantage over continuous use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like escitalopram and trial methodological issues are common.

In February 2022, journalist Marwan Bishara held the US and Russia responsible for pursuing "their own narrow interests", including then-US president Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel as well as Putin's Russian invasion of Ukraine, and for "pav[ing] the way for, well, another Cold War".
=== Beginnings === In September 1935, British chocolate manufacturer Rowntree's brought the first aerated chocolate, Aero, to market. At the time, Rowntree's had been struggling for several years to compete with rival chocolate maker Cadbury's Cadbury Dairy Milk and was looking for a new product to gain an advantage. The new chocolate was the outcome of significant research focused on developing a "count line" chocolate inspired by the recent introduction of the Mars bar to the UK market. Rowntree's patented their aerated chocolate broadly, covering variants such as chocolate with inclusions. As it was released to market, the new chocolate garnered strong sales and positive reviews, although some concerns were voiced within Rowntree's that the product would be a novelty. In their initial marketing, Rowntree's promoted aerated chocolate as better than solid chocolate: more digestible and lacking its "cloying after-taste". Cadbury objected to this and petitioned Rowntree's to stop denigrating rival chocolate makers in marketing.Rival chocolate markers attempted to position their existing product lines as competition (Cadbury their crumbly Flake bars, and Fry's their aerated-honeycomb-filled Crunchie bars), but none were seen by customers as "aerated" in the same sense as Aero. Further to their objections about aerated chocolate's digestibility, Cadbury contested the validity of the patent itself, arguing it overstepped and covered chocolates Cadbury already manufactured, as well as being malformed.

It shares the 44-residue sequence of human GHRH but carries an added trans-3-hexenoyl group at its N-terminus. That addition does not occur in the natural hormone and serves mainly to resist enzymatic breakdown. The receptor target and signaling pathway remain the same.
It binds the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor on anterior pituitary cells. Activation of that receptor promotes synthesis and release of growth hormone. The effect propagates through the growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 axis.
Native GHRH is cleared quickly by peptidases, which limits how long it can stimulate its receptor. The added group hinders one of the primary cleavage enzymes. The practical consequence is a longer period of receptor activity per dose.
It mimics a natural hypothalamic signal that tells the pituitary to release growth hormone. The result is a rise in circulating growth hormone and, indirectly, in insulin-like growth factor 1. Over weeks of treatment this shift is associated with a selective decrease in fat stored inside the abdomen.
